Majors... [21 Feb 2008|10:45pm]
[ mood | confused ]

I was wondering if  there is anyone that may be able to answer some questions I have regranding MCB and IB.

I would like to apply as a transfer student from CC.

i would like to know if applying to any of these majors would jeoperdize my chances of being admitted. (if the major is impacted, the chances of getting in are slim)

I would also like to know if there is a big difference between the two majors.

And what is the min gpa and min lower division requirements needed to transfer.

your help is greatly appreciated..

Attention: Undergraduate Students looking to Publish [25 Jun 2006|03:07pm]
The Berkeley Graduate is looking for
--> input for our summer issue <--
which is targeted to incoming graduate students.

Since we get out to EVERY incoming graduate student
(by way of being a part of the New Graduate Student Orientation packet)
if you want your prospective GSI's to know something like
effective methods of teaching,
what makes a good or bad GSI,
what you're looking for in a class,

getting that kind of input to us to print for them
is one of the best ways to change the system.

We like both essays and nuggets and would love to see what you come up with.
Deadline: July 25.

send email to:

or campus mail to

[02 May 2006|05:35pm]

Hi everyone,

So I just got into Berkeley and UCLA. I didn’t think that I could actually get into Berkeley so I have added stress in my life right now.

My gut is telling me to go to UCLA because it will be close to home (I live in South OC) but on the other hand I keep hearing all this stuff about how prestigious Berkeley is.

I can pretty much live in either place & and I plan on living off campus in my own apartment.

Both schools have offered me around $14,000 in grants and another $10,000 in loans.

I am utterly confused.

Tell me the negatives and positives of both schools. I plan on double majoring in History (with an emphasis on middle eastern studies) and either International Studies or Global Studies.

Thank you

Free breakfast, lunch, t-shirt, and kid! [07 Mar 2006|05:06pm]

[ mood | busy ]

Hi. I don't know if this is allowed so the moderators can delete this post, but it's for a really good cause.

On April 6, 2006 (Thursday) the YWCA (2600 Bancroft Way, corner of Bancroft & Bowditch) will be holding it's 13th Annual SHADOW DAY. It's a great event that helps local high school students from the Oakland and Richmond area. Often these students are minorities, from lower income families, and not college tracked. Shadow Day is intended to give these kids an opportunity to see first-hand what college life is really like. We also give them information on how to apply and pay for college.

We need a lot of CAL students to volunteer and show these kids what college life is like. Everyone gets matched one-on-one with a high school student. You can take them to your classes, take tours, go to museums, visit libraries, crash classes, etc. It's a great one day community service event (from 8AM - 3PM) and you're simply doing something that you ordinarily do (go to school). We give all our participants free breakfast, lunch, and t-shirts (and a free kid if you think about it...). It's a wonderful event and I hope you take the time to possibly impact someone's day, and possibly their future. Also, it's an easy way for some of you (like those in fraternities) to get some community service hours.

Check out photos from past YWCA Shadow Day events.

For more information and to pick up applications, please drop by the YWCA. Spread the word!

Hey kids!
I posted about this to ucberkeley but basically, if you're tired (I know you are!) and you need a nap (you know you do!), come to Sproul at 3:05 tomorrow! Bring a pillow or something soft to lie on, and set your alarm or cell phone for 3:30, and we'll all get some shut-eye! Bring your friends, but remember to be quiet out of respect for your fellow sleepy students. See you there!

Free Screening of Sin City to support Berkeley Free Clinic [02 Sep 2005|01:48pm]

Foothill-Hillside/Stern (in Unit 4) are having a free screening of Sin City outdoors this Saturday at 8PM to support the Berkeley Free Clinic. The proceeds from the concessions will help fund free and anonymous HIV testing there.

Move-In Day Service [15 Aug 2005|10:06pm]

Dear (dorming) Freshmen Cal Students-

Because move-in day can be such a stressful experience for a lost freshmen and their whole family, my 5 roommates and I are offering a moving service- We will bring your stuff from your car to the dorm, and we will carry it all up the stairs (by far the quickest way) into your dorm room. You won't have to worry about anything- you and your family can go eat or explore the campus and the city.

Prices will range from $50-$120, depending on the distance from the car, the floor you live on, the amount of stuff you have, etc.

I set up a small website with all the information and how to reserve service for your move-in day.

Go Bears,
